If you have been around for a while, you will know that I love rugs! A rug can change the whole dynamic of a space/room and I love the cozy feel that they bring. The size of a rug chosen for a space depends on furniture placement as well as what room the rug will live.
I’ve compiled a list of budget friendly rugs here, rugs that I get questions about often. These are rugs that I have shared in the past and so many of you have gotten them and love them. They have amazing reviews, and are super budget friendly. I don’t like to spend more than I need to for something with great style. These neutral rugs are perfect for almost any space and won’t break the bank.

When I am choosing a rug for a space such as my living area, I make sure that all of the feet of the furniture, such as sofas, chairs, etc, will be able to sit on the edge of the rug. Usually, the larger the rug in a living area, the better.

I do have a vintage rug in my home that is an odd size and all of the furniture sits on the edge of the rug except for the sofa. At first I thought that it was going to look funny, but I actually love it and it works perfect in my space. I think it helps that the other pieces of furniture are able to be on the rug and the sofa is behind my coffee table, allowing it to not be as visible.
I don’t use rug pads under my rugs. I have never had an issue with them sliding or felt the need for a rug pad. The only time I had issues with my rugs sliding was when I had a rug over carpeting. We recently switched out all of our flooring to wood laminate and unless my pup Chester is playing “ski across the floor”, my rugs don’t slide.

I also love the look of layered rugs! It makes me feel like the space is more homey/cozy when I have layered rugs.

The rugs that I have in my bedroom are very large. We have a 9×12′ in our master bedroom with a king size bed. It also depends on the size of a bedroom as to what size of rug to look for. I would not want a rug to touch the walls of my room from side to side or front to back. It’s nice to see the flooring in the bedroom on each side of the rug, while allowing for an adequate space for the rug to show on each side and end of the bed.

I have an 8×10′ rug in our spare room with a king size bed and it fits the space just as perfectly. Our spare room is a bit smaller than our master, so an 8×10’ is actually better for that space.
I don’t have a rug under my dining room table, but I do have one under our smaller table in our eat in kitchen at this time. I made sure that all of the furniture (table and chairs) could sit on the rug that I chose for that space.
In other smaller spaces, light bathrooms and laundry areas, smaller rugs are obviously the answer. I usually have a rug in front of my tub or vanity. In our master bath for example, I only have one in front of our tub. I don’t have a rug at all in our laundry area. With as much laundry as we have all over our laundry floor half the time, I feel better not having a rug in that space. I do see many larger laundry spaces with rugs that look amazing!
I hope this helps answer a lot of the questions that I receive about rugs in my home. I do love a great vintage rug. I find a lot of those on Etsy by typing in “neutral vintage rug”. When I can’t find one I like that is “old”, a new vintage looking one is a great option. I also love the look of jute rugs in a space! There are so many great rugs out there, vintage or not.
Rugs make a space more cozy and that’s what I love most about them. I love our laminate wood floors and the amazing look of them. I don’t like to cover them up everywhere in our home. But, a good rug in a space such as a living area or bedroom, always makes the space so much more comfortable, in my opinion.
